Class Descriptions:

Theatre I

Course #6401 Credit: 1 Grade: 9 - 12

Theater I is an introduction to the elements of theatre, including basic acting techniques, technical theatre, and interpretation of dramatic literature. Students explore stage movement, mime, voice and diction, improvisation, and scene presentation. They also practice relaxation and preparatory techniques, examine dramatic structure, and develop audience appreciation skills. Students will perform in one play production by the end of the year.  Theatre I Showcase is Friday, April 12th, 6PM, RHS Auditorium - Free Event. There are no fees for Theatre I.

 

Theatre II/III/ IV

Course #6402, 6403, 6404 Credit: 1 Grade: 9 - 12

Theater II-IV is a continuation of learning the elements of theatre, including basic acting techniques, technical theatre and interpretation of dramatic literature.  Elements of Theatre I classes will be reviewed.  Students will learn more about theatre history, basic stage make-up techniques, reader's theatre and duet acting.  They will participate in performances during class as an actor or part of a crew numerous times throughout the year.  Theatre II/III/IV Showcase is Thursday, November 29th, 6PM, RHS Auditorium - Free Event. Theatre IV students in this class may be placed in a production class without outside commitment.

Junior Varsity Advanced Productions

Prerequisites: Application Process and Audition

Theatre Production classes are geared towards learning through production work. Outside commitment is required. In theatre production classes, students are provided opportunities to learn about and participate in all aspects of theatre production. Students will learn increasingly more diffi­cult performance and technical skills and are required to participate in productions for the community and school.  Theatre JVAP Renfest Trip Fees are $50.00. Students will also have a Spring Showcase Wednesday, May 17th, 6PM, RHS Auditorium - Free Event.

Varsity Advanced Productions

Prerequisites: Application Process and Audition

Theatre Production classes are geared towards learning through production work. Outside commitment is required. In theatre production classes, students are provided opportunities to learn about and participate in all aspects of theatre production. Students will learn increasingly more difficult performance and technical skills and are required to participate in productions for the community and school.  Theatre AP Fall Show and Renfest Trip Fees are $75.00. Students will also perform in the AP Showcase on Saturday, September 15th at 6PM, Blackbox Room  5306 - Free Event 

Musical Theatre - Not Available At This Time

Credit: 1 Grade: 9 - 12

Prerequisites: None at this time.

Musical Theatre will expose students to a wide range of onstage performance disciplines, including acting performance,
vocal performance, and dance performance. The course will also provide an atmosphere in which students benefit from a teaching and learning experience in these performance disciplines of musical theatre. Students will receive comprehensive and rigorous instruction so that they may make informed choices about the craft, college, and the profession. The course will enhance and cultivate the creative gifts of each student while encouraging a sense of self-confidence. The course will enable students to study and perform the varied styles of musical theatre with special attention to the principals of stage movement, stage vocal technique, stage choreography, acting, characterization, and all other aspects of a musical production. There may be a cost associated with taking this course. Musical Theatre Fees are $70 per semester and $140 for the year. Students will also have a Musical Theatre Showcase TBD, 7PM, RHS Auditorium - Free Event.

Tech I

Course #6421 Credit: 1 Grade: 9 - 12

Technical Theater I is where fundamentals of stage design, set and property construction, costumes and make-up, as well as the principles of stage lighting and sound will be presented through this course.  Each student will be encouraged to attend play rehearsals and serve on production crews.  Students will learn all responsibilities of a production crew including the job of stage manager, director and assistant director.  There are no fees for Theatre Tech I.

Tech II/III

Course #6422, 6423, 6424  Credit: 1 Grade: 9 - 12

Technical Theater II-IV is a continuation of learning the elements of theatre fundamentals of stage design, set and property construction, costumes and make-up, as well as the principles of stage lighting and sound will be presented through this course.  Each student will be encouraged to attend play rehearsals and serve on production crews.  Students will learn all responsibilities of a production crew including the job of stage manager, director and assistant director. 

Advanced Technical Theatre

Course #6422, 6423, 6424  Credit: 1 Grade: 10 - 12

Prerequisites: Application Process and Interview

Technical Production Theater are geared towards learning through production work.  They will continue to learn increasingly more difficult theatre stage design, set and property construction, costumes, make-up, stage lighting, production crew, stage manager, director and assistant director.  Students are required to participate in productions for the community and school.  Theater Tech AP Renfest Tip Fees are $50.00.
